God wants His church to prepare for the days ahead and be an ark of refuge in times of trouble. By preparing and getting in alignment to God’s kingdom principles, both individually and corporately, we can be ready to be a help to others.
Windsurfing and speedboating in life may be fun and exciting, but when major storms come, we’d better be rooted and grounded in the Lord. We need stability in relationship to God and His Church. We need more than excitement and hype, we need His Word, His Wisdom, His Presence, His Divine Guidance and Direction.
There is such need in the world around us today. So many are shipwrecked in the sea of despair. God is calling His people, you and me, to be rise up in these stormy days and be an ark of refuge.
Noah is a man who heeded God’s divine warning and prepared. Hebrews 11:7 tells us that “By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear [and] prepared an ark for the saving of his household.” Noah lived in dark days full of corruption and immorality. But he heeded God’s warning that judgment was coming and prepared accordingly. As a result, his household was saved, as were all the living things that came with him on the ark. 00:00:00,000 --> 00:00:03,680
Welcome to A Word in Season with Doug Stringer and friends.
2
00:00:03,680 --> 00:00:08,260
In this episode, Doug shares the importance of positioning ourselves properly so we can
3
00:00:08,260 --> 00:00:11,180
be prepared to respond during the storms.
4
00:00:11,180 --> 00:00:15,600
God wants His Church to prepare for the days ahead and be an ark of refuge in times of
5
00:00:15,600 --> 00:00:16,600
trouble.
6
00:00:16,600 --> 00:00:21,080
By preparing and getting in alignment to God's Kingdom principles, both individually and
7
00:00:21,080 --> 00:00:24,580
corporately, we can be ready to be a help to others.
8
00:00:24,580 --> 00:00:26,880
God provides many divine warnings.
9
00:00:26,880 --> 00:00:28,360
Are we listening?

13
00:00:38,680 --> 00:00:42,720
Now, let's join our host, Doug Stringer.
14
00:00:42,720 --> 00:00:43,720
Divine warnings.
15
00:00:43,720 --> 00:00:48,000
Are you tethered and connected for the storms ahead?
16
00:00:48,000 --> 00:00:55,640
I actually took this from something I wrote in 2020 and updated it on August the 4th, Sunday,
17
00:00:55,640 --> 00:01:03,360
because at sundown August the 4th, 2024 is the beginning of the month of Av in the Hebrew
18
00:01:03,360 --> 00:01:04,720
calendar.
19
00:01:04,720 --> 00:01:11,440
And interestingly, on the 9th of Av, which I wrote about a few years ago, is very significant
20
00:01:11,440 --> 00:01:17,440
because on the 9th of Av, it's a very sad time because it's the day which would be August
21
00:01:17,440 --> 00:01:21,680
12th at sundown through the 13th in 2024.
22
00:01:21,680 --> 00:01:29,640
So from August 4th sundown to sundown August 13th, I believe is very, very significant
23
00:01:29,640 --> 00:01:31,040
in many ways.
24
00:01:31,040 --> 00:01:36,020
And it's interesting because I felt a strong inclination to share this message on this
25
00:01:36,020 --> 00:01:40,020
past Sunday, August the 4th in preparation for the month of Av.
26
00:01:40,020 --> 00:01:44,840
But the 9th of Av is a very significant day in Jewish history.
27
00:01:44,840 --> 00:01:50,420
It was the same day that the temple, the first and the second temple were destroyed.
28
00:01:50,420 --> 00:01:54,840
So I won't get into that right now, but I feel like the next few days is going to be
29
00:01:54,840 --> 00:02:00,360
very significant in the global context as well as in the context of where we are right
30
00:02:00,360 --> 00:02:01,520
now.
31
00:02:01,520 --> 00:02:05,920
And then I found out this morning when I woke up after I already posted some of this late
32
00:02:05,920 --> 00:02:12,920
Sunday night that the markets began to crumble in Japan as well as in Asian markets in the
33
00:02:12,920 --> 00:02:13,920
US.
34
00:02:13,920 --> 00:02:16,520
People are overcome with fear and anxiety.
35
00:02:16,520 --> 00:02:20,720
And I thought it was very appropriate that I'm talking about divine warnings and that
36
00:02:20,720 --> 00:02:23,840
are we tethered and connected for the storms ahead.
37
00:02:23,840 --> 00:02:25,600
So I'll share some of that here in a moment.
38
00:02:25,600 --> 00:02:30,960
I do believe in the next podcast I'll do later this week will be about the 9th of Av.
39
00:02:30,960 --> 00:02:35,320
I believe it's very important for us to see the timeline here, but also the lessons we
40
00:02:35,320 --> 00:02:41,940
can get from times past, look at landmarks of the past, but also learn from history past.
41
00:02:41,940 --> 00:02:44,000
And I do believe we're in a very significant time.
42
00:02:44,000 --> 00:02:47,640
The real issue is are we prepared for the days ahead?
43
00:02:47,640 --> 00:02:53,120
So that being said, let me just share a little bit about what I wrote and posted this past
44
00:02:53,120 --> 00:02:57,840
Sunday night, August the 4th at sundown on the month of Av.
45
00:02:57,840 --> 00:03:02,560
I said, divine warnings, are you tethered and connected for the coming storms ahead?
46
00:03:02,560 --> 00:03:08,260
And I said, windsurfing and speedboating in life may be fun and exciting, but with major
47
00:03:08,260 --> 00:03:11,480
storms we'd better be rooted and grounded.
48
00:03:11,480 --> 00:03:16,360
I love what Winky Pratt used to say, it's always great to get out windsurfing and church
49
00:03:16,360 --> 00:03:22,320
windsurfing, exciting things and all the hype, but when the storms come, you better be connected
50
00:03:22,320 --> 00:03:25,920
and close to an ocean liner where there's stability.
51
00:03:25,920 --> 00:03:31,700
So I go on and say, we need stability and relationship to God and His church.
52
00:03:31,700 --> 00:03:34,240
We need more than excitement and hype.
53
00:03:34,240 --> 00:03:40,760
We need His word, His wisdom, His presence, His divine guidance and direction.
54
00:03:40,760 --> 00:03:44,000
One man who heeded God's warning, he prepared was Noah.
55
00:03:44,000 --> 00:03:50,120
In fact, we see in Hebrews 11, verse 7, it tells us that by faith, Noah, being divinely
56
00:03:50,120 --> 00:03:56,760
warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear and prepared an ark for the saving
57
00:03:56,760 --> 00:03:58,080
of his household.
58
00:03:58,080 --> 00:04:02,520
So in other words, by divine warning, we read that in the chapter 11 of Hebrews, which we
59
00:04:02,520 --> 00:04:08,840
call the chapter of faith, but the reality is here it is that Noah, by divine warning,
60
00:04:08,840 --> 00:04:09,840
prepared an ark.
61
00:04:09,840 --> 00:04:15,360
And he was divinely warned of things not yet seen, in other words, things to come.
62
00:04:15,360 --> 00:04:20,320
He was moved with godly fear and prepared an ark for the saving of his household.
63
00:04:20,320 --> 00:04:25,360
Noah lived in dark days full of corruption and immorality.
64
00:04:25,360 --> 00:04:26,940
Sounds familiar.
65
00:04:26,940 --> 00:04:32,480
But he heeded God's warning that judgment was coming and prepared accordingly.
66
00:04:32,480 --> 00:04:39,480
As a result, his household was saved as were all the living things that came with him on
67
00:04:39,480 --> 00:04:40,480
the ark.
68
00:04:40,480 --> 00:04:42,920
We can also read Genesis chapter 6 through chapter 9.
69
00:04:42,920 --> 00:04:46,720
You'll see that in the book of Genesis and scripture about the story of the ark.
70
00:04:46,720 --> 00:04:52,160
But we see in the New Testament in Hebrews chapter 11, verse 7, speaking of Noah, by
71
00:04:52,160 --> 00:04:58,240
faith, was divinely warned of things yet to come, of the storms ahead, and he moved with
72
00:04:58,240 --> 00:05:00,120
godly fear.
73
00:05:00,120 --> 00:05:02,360
And this is where I think we are today.
74
00:05:02,360 --> 00:05:06,920
Even tolerating compromise and profaning the holy things of God in the church, we see in
75
00:05:06,920 --> 00:05:11,860
Hebrews chapter 10, verse 26, it says, for if you sin willfully after you receive the
76
00:05:11,860 --> 00:05:15,480
knowledge of the truth, there remains a fearful expectation of judgment.
77
00:05:15,480 --> 00:05:21,040
It goes on to say it's because we've counted the shed blood of Jesus as a common thing.
78
00:05:21,040 --> 00:05:24,320
In other words, we profaned the holy.
79
00:05:24,320 --> 00:05:26,800
And then we also trampled underfoot the spirit of grace.
80
00:05:26,800 --> 00:05:29,000
And I think we see a lot of that today.
81
00:05:29,000 --> 00:05:34,400
We have been digressing and we have been regressing in some areas, and there's been a gradual
82
00:05:34,400 --> 00:05:40,960
desensitization that permits us to accept things once thought profane and obscene as
83
00:05:40,960 --> 00:05:44,760
now acceptable, even commonplace.
84
00:05:44,760 --> 00:05:49,120
People pick and choose what is right and wrong for themselves, often according to their own
85
00:05:49,120 --> 00:05:53,040
personal preferences, opinions, and feelings.
86
00:05:53,040 --> 00:05:55,040
We've lost the love of the truth.
87
00:05:55,040 --> 00:06:00,000
God wants His church to prepare for the days ahead and be an ark of refuge in times of
88
00:06:00,000 --> 00:06:05,160
trouble by preparing and getting in alignment with God's kingdom principles, both individually
89
00:06:05,160 --> 00:06:06,160
and corporately.
90
00:06:06,160 --> 00:06:09,920
We can be ready to be a help to others in time of need.
91
00:06:09,920 --> 00:06:15,240
When disasters or crises come, or like stock market crashes or other human and natural
92
00:06:15,240 --> 00:06:19,120
disasters, we will have an opportunity to show our testimony.
93
00:06:19,120 --> 00:06:23,520
In fact, Luke 21, verse 13, you've heard me say this for decades.
94
00:06:23,520 --> 00:06:29,600
In the midst of all the crisis of Luke chapter 21 and Jesus' own words in verse 13 of chapter
95
00:06:29,600 --> 00:06:34,600
21, Jesus said, but it shall be an occasion for your testimony.
96
00:06:34,600 --> 00:06:39,200
In other words, regardless of our eschatology, regardless of all of our opinions, regardless
97
00:06:39,200 --> 00:06:45,000
of all that we can criticize or judge, the fact is, when there are times of difficulty
98
00:06:45,000 --> 00:06:50,880
in people's lives and crisis locally or globally in our personal lives, it's an opportunity
99
00:06:50,880 --> 00:06:53,720
for our witness and our testimony.
100
00:06:53,720 --> 00:06:56,540
There is such a need in the world around us today.
101
00:06:56,540 --> 00:06:58,280
How can we settle into complacency?
102
00:06:58,280 --> 00:07:03,720
The fact I wrote about this and written about this in my books and articles and quote this,
103
00:07:03,720 --> 00:07:09,060
this is how I quote myself, and I said, there is such a need in the world around us today.
104
00:07:09,060 --> 00:07:11,740
How can we settle into complacency?
105
00:07:11,740 --> 00:07:17,320
How can we be so hardened of heart as to sit back on the beach of comfort, ease and empathy
106
00:07:17,320 --> 00:07:21,280
while so many are still shipwrecked in the sea of despair?
107
00:07:21,280 --> 00:07:24,120
There's lessons we can get from the book of Hebrews.
108
00:07:24,120 --> 00:07:27,040
One of the things I love about the book of Hebrews is this.
109
00:07:27,040 --> 00:07:31,880
It's a reoccurring theme for believers standing strong in the Lord and finishing their journey
110
00:07:31,880 --> 00:07:34,280
of faith and doing it well.
111
00:07:34,280 --> 00:07:39,760
Quite a few years ago, I was reflecting on the various stories I read regarding the Titanic
112
00:07:39,760 --> 00:07:44,800
and the various warnings the crew had received prior to the perilous day of that shipwreck
113
00:07:44,800 --> 00:07:48,240
and the sinking of the Titanic and hundreds being killed.
114
00:07:48,240 --> 00:07:53,160
It occurred to me of the various warnings and lessons that we also are given in the
115
00:07:53,160 --> 00:07:58,880
book of Hebrews that can help us from our own shipwreck personally and corporately.
116
00:07:58,880 --> 00:08:03,920
Initially, I noticed and jotted down and wrote about six different warnings that I saw in
117
00:08:03,920 --> 00:08:04,920
Hebrews.
118
00:08:04,920 --> 00:08:07,600
One, the warning and danger of neglect.
119
00:08:07,600 --> 00:08:10,040
Two, the warning and danger of unbelief.
120
00:08:10,040 --> 00:08:12,440
Three, the danger of the hardening of our hearts.
121
00:08:12,440 --> 00:08:14,240
And four, the dullness of hearing.
122
00:08:14,240 --> 00:08:17,440
Five, the danger of drawing back or away from God.
123
00:08:17,440 --> 00:08:21,640
And number six, the danger of refusing God when He speaks.
124
00:08:21,640 --> 00:08:27,280
And later I noticed at least four more specific warnings that we get from the writer of Hebrews.
125
00:08:27,280 --> 00:08:31,200
And the lists are hindrances to the personal and corporate revival that we're all seeking.
126
00:08:31,200 --> 00:08:35,200
I believe that there are ten things that I wrote about, in fact, in my book, Leadership
127
00:08:35,200 --> 00:08:36,200
Awakening.
128
00:08:36,200 --> 00:08:38,280
I noticed the four additional warnings.
129
00:08:38,280 --> 00:08:43,300
I added to this book that I wrote, Leadership Awakening, and I said, nearly every believer
130
00:08:43,300 --> 00:08:46,320
claims to desire a transformed life.
131
00:08:46,320 --> 00:08:50,200
But these ten factors often get in the way.
132
00:08:50,200 --> 00:08:54,200
And today, as in the days that the book of Hebrews was written, every Christian will
133
00:08:54,200 --> 00:08:56,800
face the following hindrances.
134
00:08:56,800 --> 00:08:59,680
One, failure to hate sin.
135
00:08:59,680 --> 00:09:03,720
The negligence, the hardening of our hearts, unbelief.
136
00:09:03,720 --> 00:09:09,440
And here's another one that I wrote down, prayerlessness, the dullness of hearing, insulting
137
00:09:09,440 --> 00:09:11,040
the spirit of grace.
138
00:09:11,040 --> 00:09:12,760
I quoted that a few minutes ago.
139
00:09:12,760 --> 00:09:15,760
We've trampled underfoot the spirit of grace.
140
00:09:15,760 --> 00:09:21,120
Discouragement, and I've said this often, is a powerful drug, harboring unforgiveness
141
00:09:21,120 --> 00:09:22,600
and bitterness.
142
00:09:22,600 --> 00:09:27,000
And then finally, number ten, refusing the Lord when He speaks.
143
00:09:27,000 --> 00:09:28,200
Let's take a closer look.
144
00:09:28,200 --> 00:09:32,480
In my book, Leadership Awakening, we address each of the ten hindrances individually, but
145
00:09:32,480 --> 00:09:37,320
for the sake of space, in this podcast and the things I've written, I said this.
146
00:09:37,320 --> 00:09:43,120
I hope you will take the time to study the list of verses as well as corresponding scriptures
147
00:09:43,120 --> 00:09:44,520
that I already quoted.
148
00:09:44,520 --> 00:09:48,360
So you'll find renewed challenge, perspective, and purpose for your own walk.
149
00:09:48,360 --> 00:09:53,800
In 1959, Leonard Ravenhill wrote a classic book called Why Revival Tarries.
150
00:09:53,800 --> 00:09:58,000
And in it, he describes some reasons why the church doesn't see revival.
151
00:09:58,000 --> 00:10:02,480
May I also say another great book I'd like to encourage you to read by Leonard Ravenhill,
152
00:10:02,480 --> 00:10:04,560
Tried and Transfigured.
153
00:10:04,560 --> 00:10:06,860
Many of us have been going through trying times.
154
00:10:06,860 --> 00:10:12,480
This book, Tried and Transfigured, is a great story, a great analogies, as well as scriptural
155
00:10:12,480 --> 00:10:17,120
representation of the importance of being tried and then transfigured.
156
00:10:17,120 --> 00:10:21,300
So his book, Why Revival Tarries, of course all of his books, but another one that really
157
00:10:21,300 --> 00:10:25,200
ministered to me in my early days and when I had a chance to get to know Leonard Ravenhill,
158
00:10:25,200 --> 00:10:27,180
was Tried and Transfigured.
159
00:10:27,180 --> 00:10:30,600
We tend to be content to live without it, he says.
160
00:10:30,600 --> 00:10:31,960
It's too costly.
161
00:10:31,960 --> 00:10:35,200
We don't want God to disrupt our status quo.
162
00:10:35,200 --> 00:10:36,420
That's so true.
163
00:10:36,420 --> 00:10:40,240
The Christian life could only be lived one way, and that's God's way.
164
00:10:40,240 --> 00:10:44,060
And God's way is that I leave all and follow Him.
165
00:10:44,060 --> 00:10:47,840
When I think I've arrived at something, the Lord shudders that.
166
00:10:47,840 --> 00:10:48,840
Ouch.
167
00:10:48,840 --> 00:10:53,520
I sure hope, just like with me, I never want to become content to live without revival.
168
00:10:53,520 --> 00:10:58,160
I never want to conclude that a spiritual awakening is too costly or that the status
169
00:10:58,160 --> 00:11:03,720
quo is preferable to a move of God's spirit throughout our nation or in my personal life.
170
00:11:03,720 --> 00:11:08,040
But I know that each of us must guard against spiritual complacency.
171
00:11:08,040 --> 00:11:13,280
If Christians in the early church lost their first love and became lukewarm, how much more
172
00:11:13,280 --> 00:11:18,480
do we have to take pains to ensure that our own hearts remain kindled with a fresh passion
173
00:11:18,480 --> 00:11:19,480
for God?
174
00:11:19,480 --> 00:11:23,900
I've always said, a passion for God allows no room for mediocrity.
175
00:11:23,900 --> 00:11:28,520
We need people who exhibit this kind of radical contentment in commitment today.
176
00:11:28,520 --> 00:11:30,960
Let me just clarify what I just said.
177
00:11:30,960 --> 00:11:35,060
We need this kind of radical contentment and commitment.
178
00:11:35,060 --> 00:11:38,200
Too often we are discontented even with the things of God.
179
00:11:38,200 --> 00:11:39,200
We detest the man of God.
180
00:11:39,200 --> 00:11:40,600
We detest the things of God.
181
00:11:40,600 --> 00:11:45,600
We loathe it because we have expectations of our own that we say that God owes us.
182
00:11:45,600 --> 00:11:49,840
I was waking up quite a bit the other day and I kept thinking to myself, God doesn't
183
00:11:49,840 --> 00:11:51,600
owe us anything.
184
00:11:51,600 --> 00:11:54,420
He's already given us everything through Christ.
185
00:11:54,420 --> 00:11:56,800
And we tend to always try to say, gimme, gimme, gimme.
186
00:11:56,800 --> 00:11:59,720
We're never content in the place of what He's already done.
187
00:11:59,720 --> 00:12:04,360
So we're always putting expectations on God that somehow He only loves me if He does this
188
00:12:04,360 --> 00:12:06,960
or that or moves that mountain for me.
189
00:12:06,960 --> 00:12:11,160
Yes, those are all levels of faith and things that God allows the authority of His kingdom
190
00:12:11,160 --> 00:12:16,160
to move in our lives, but we should recognize that it's our commitment to God and that our
191
00:12:16,160 --> 00:12:19,080
contentment in God that He owes us nothing.
192
00:12:19,080 --> 00:12:22,280
He's already paid the price and He's done it all for us.
193
00:12:22,280 --> 00:12:24,720
He's already given us all these opportunities.
194
00:12:24,720 --> 00:12:26,800
I like what Brother Raven also said.
195
00:12:26,800 --> 00:12:31,320
He used to say, could a mariner remain idle if he heard a drowning cry?
196
00:12:31,320 --> 00:12:34,800
Could a doctor sit in comfort and just let his patients die?
197
00:12:34,800 --> 00:12:38,240
Could a fireman let people burn without lending a hand?
198
00:12:38,240 --> 00:12:43,060
And he says to us, can you sit at ease in Zion or as Christians while the world around
199
00:12:43,060 --> 00:12:44,360
you is damned?
200
00:12:44,360 --> 00:12:48,680
There are still powerful questions that we need to ask ourselves because these are still
201
00:12:48,680 --> 00:12:53,480
powerful statements that He said to us for us today.
202
00:12:53,480 --> 00:12:56,400
Let us not miss our windows of opportunity.
203
00:12:56,400 --> 00:13:02,000
The apostle Paul said in 1 Corinthians 16, 9, a great and effective door of opportunity
204
00:13:02,000 --> 00:13:05,720
has been opened unto me, but the adversaries are many.
205
00:13:05,720 --> 00:13:09,720
I think of that scripture often because I think of the excuses I can make and I look
206
00:13:09,720 --> 00:13:14,400
at the obstacles and adversities and I begin to question my own calling or God's purposes
207
00:13:14,400 --> 00:13:15,400
in my life.
208
00:13:15,400 --> 00:13:20,360
And I tend to look at my own self-pity or I become self-absorbed rather than self-righteous
209
00:13:20,360 --> 00:13:25,360
and instead of looking at selfish rather than being selfless and realizing I'm called to
210
00:13:25,360 --> 00:13:29,480
honor God and to serve Him and to love Him and to love people.
211
00:13:29,480 --> 00:13:33,520
Let us not miss our windows of opportunity like Paul said in 1 Corinthians 16, 9, because
212
00:13:33,520 --> 00:13:39,360
a great and effective door of opportunity has been opened to all of us, but there are
213
00:13:39,360 --> 00:13:41,880
obstacles and adversaries in the way.
214
00:13:41,880 --> 00:13:47,240
We live in a great and exciting time in which we the church must bring a message of hope
215
00:13:47,240 --> 00:13:52,120
because there are distractions, disappointments, and discouragements, even bring disillusionments
216
00:13:52,120 --> 00:13:57,800
and even temptations can be works of the adversary to keep us from what God wants us to do to
217
00:13:57,800 --> 00:14:00,520
be effective at this time.
218
00:14:00,520 --> 00:14:05,400
Distractions can include our love of comfort and ease of the cares and the securities of
219
00:14:05,400 --> 00:14:06,400
this world.
220
00:14:06,400 --> 00:14:09,160
Yet everything can be shaken as being shaken.
221
00:14:09,160 --> 00:14:15,000
As scripture tells us in Hebrews chapter 12 verse 25 through 29, shakings can bring distraction
222
00:14:15,000 --> 00:14:16,760
which brings disappointment.
223
00:14:16,760 --> 00:14:18,560
Then we become discouraged.
224
00:14:18,560 --> 00:14:22,200
We can get disappointed in people and even in God.
225
00:14:22,200 --> 00:14:27,920
From a place of discouragement we must watch out that we don't compromise our convictions.
226
00:14:27,920 --> 00:14:32,540
In those times our response should always be different than that of the world.
227
00:14:32,540 --> 00:14:38,000
We should call upon the Lord and His emergency hotline to find peace, grace, and mercy.
228
00:14:38,000 --> 00:14:39,620
Let me say that again.
229
00:14:39,620 --> 00:14:45,400
We need to call upon the Lord on His emergency hotline for grace and mercy and peace because
230
00:14:45,400 --> 00:14:49,440
we need the shalom of God like never before, we need the grace of God, and we need the
231
00:14:49,440 --> 00:14:52,360
peace of God who surpasses all human comprehension.
232
00:14:52,360 --> 00:14:55,760
We need the mercy of God in a world that's a mess right now.
233
00:14:55,760 --> 00:14:57,360
God can turn it all around, I believe.
234
00:14:57,360 --> 00:15:02,060
He can turn around economies, our circumstances, worldwide situations that we're going through
235
00:15:02,060 --> 00:15:03,320
right now.
236
00:15:03,320 --> 00:15:07,680
He promises us good and not evil, a future and a hope.
237
00:15:07,680 --> 00:15:12,960
If we call upon Him, He will answer us, it says in Jeremiah 29 verse 11 and 12.
238
00:15:12,960 --> 00:15:17,840
We can do exceedingly beyond what we can think or imagine according to Ephesians 3.20.
239
00:15:17,840 --> 00:15:21,720
It says that now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above what we ask or
240
00:15:21,720 --> 00:15:25,300
think or even imagine according to the power that works in us.
241
00:15:25,300 --> 00:15:30,240
God has given us a great and effective door to reach many with the gospel today.
242
00:15:30,240 --> 00:15:34,920
Whatever door is open or whatever door He opens, no man can shut.
243
00:15:34,920 --> 00:15:41,080
May we not have to look back and say weeks and months from now that the harvest has passed
244
00:15:41,080 --> 00:15:44,400
and the summer has ended and the people are still not saved.
245
00:15:44,400 --> 00:15:47,320
I'm reminded of that in Jeremiah chapter 8 verse 20.
246
00:15:47,320 --> 00:15:51,720
Here we are coming to the conclusion, at least in the US, the conclusion of summertime.
247
00:15:51,720 --> 00:15:57,520
May we not also say like it says in Jeremiah 8 20 that the harvest has passed, the summer
248
00:15:57,520 --> 00:16:00,480
is over and the people are still not saved.
249
00:16:00,480 --> 00:16:01,480
This is our window.
250
00:16:01,480 --> 00:16:06,240
I do believe we're in a window of time right now just like the beginning of Av, the sundown
251
00:16:06,240 --> 00:16:12,120
of August 4th through sundown Monday, August 5th on the 9th of Av, which is sundown the
252
00:16:12,120 --> 00:16:18,640
12th of August through the end of the sundown August 13th is the 9th of Av and that is a
253
00:16:18,640 --> 00:16:25,040
very significant day throughout the last few hundred years of the two destructions of the
254
00:16:25,040 --> 00:16:30,400
temple, both destroyed hundreds of years apart on the same day.
255
00:16:30,400 --> 00:16:34,580
There's something significant, I believe, just like we have to pray about this spirit
256
00:16:34,580 --> 00:16:40,200
of Haman that has been released across the world that's coming from the attack from Iran
257
00:16:40,200 --> 00:16:43,360
and through Hezbollah and through Hamas and others.
258
00:16:43,360 --> 00:16:48,760
There is a spirit of death that is gone around the world, but in the midst of that there
259
00:16:48,760 --> 00:16:54,400
is life and life more abundantly that God wants to give to and through his people.
260
00:16:54,400 --> 00:16:56,920
The world is looking for answers.
261
00:16:56,920 --> 00:16:59,560
This is not a comfortable place to be.
262
00:16:59,560 --> 00:17:03,240
Most of us would rather be spectators in the epic battles of our times.
263
00:17:03,240 --> 00:17:05,000
Hooray for Jesus, I say.
264
00:17:05,000 --> 00:17:09,240
We shout from the grandstands, hooray, hooray, just like all these sporting events.
265
00:17:09,240 --> 00:17:14,400
But some of us at times are more concerned and upset about athletic events, and especially
266
00:17:14,400 --> 00:17:17,920
see what's going on in Paris and the Olympics.
267
00:17:17,920 --> 00:17:23,800
I'm a sports fan like anybody else, but look at the Pandora's box that has been opened.
268
00:17:23,800 --> 00:17:28,720
Look at the immorality, the desecration of the Holy, the profaning of the Holy that we
269
00:17:28,720 --> 00:17:31,200
see is being unleashed around the world.
270
00:17:31,200 --> 00:17:35,560
And we're more excited about cheering and shouting for athletes, and I do too.
271
00:17:35,560 --> 00:17:37,240
I love sports.
272
00:17:37,240 --> 00:17:42,680
But yet we forget that we should not just be spectators in the epic battles of our times
273
00:17:42,680 --> 00:17:48,240
and saying hooray for Jesus and enjoying all of our gatherings and kumbayas and events
274
00:17:48,240 --> 00:17:53,000
and just put our heads in the sand thinking that the world is not in a desperate place.
275
00:17:53,000 --> 00:17:54,000
It is.
276
00:17:54,000 --> 00:17:59,040
We've got to stop shouting from the grandstands, giving our opinions from the sidelines, but
277
00:17:59,040 --> 00:18:04,160
some of us at times are more concerned and upset about athletic events or other personal
278
00:18:04,160 --> 00:18:07,760
preferences than we are in a world in crisis.
279
00:18:07,760 --> 00:18:11,360
Instead of standing in the gap between the living and the dead, we sit in comfort on
280
00:18:11,360 --> 00:18:13,160
our padded pews.
281
00:18:13,160 --> 00:18:18,560
Instead of running into the flames to rescue lost souls, we piously hide out in our stained
282
00:18:18,560 --> 00:18:21,560
glass buildings and our holy huddles.
283
00:18:21,560 --> 00:18:25,560
I remember a quote, and I put this in a book of mine I wrote years ago about the Spirit
284
00:18:25,560 --> 00:18:27,200
of the Ten Commandments.
285
00:18:27,200 --> 00:18:31,040
I quote a famous Scottish preacher named George MacLeod who said this,
286
00:18:31,040 --> 00:18:36,280
I simply argue that the cross should be raised in the center of the marketplace as well as
287
00:18:36,280 --> 00:18:38,080
on the steeple of the church.
288
00:18:38,080 --> 00:18:42,560
I'm recovering the claim that Jesus was not crucified between two candles, but on
289
00:18:42,560 --> 00:18:44,680
a cross between two thieves.
290
00:18:44,680 --> 00:18:50,600
On the town's garbage heap, at a crossroads so cosmopolitan they had to write His title
291
00:18:50,600 --> 00:18:52,880
in Hebrew, in Latin, and in Greek.
292
00:18:52,880 --> 00:18:59,640
At the kind of place where cynics talk smut and thieves curse and soldiers gamble because
293
00:18:59,640 --> 00:19:05,880
that is where He died, that is what He died for, and that is what He died about, and that
294
00:19:05,880 --> 00:19:10,320
is where church people ought to be and what church people ought to be about.
295
00:19:10,320 --> 00:19:15,880
Echoing the same passion for intercessory evangelism, C.T. Studd wrote,
296
00:19:15,880 --> 00:19:18,960
Some like to live within the sound of church or chapel bells.
297
00:19:18,960 --> 00:19:23,160
I'd rather run a rescue shop within a yard of hell, he said.
298
00:19:23,160 --> 00:19:25,960
To quote my friend Bishop Del Broner in Atlanta,
299
00:19:25,960 --> 00:19:30,720
Our passion for Christ must always be greater than our passion for anything else.
300
00:19:30,720 --> 00:19:33,880
Is there hope that we can really make an impact?
301
00:19:33,880 --> 00:19:36,280
Yes, indeed, I believe we can.
302
00:19:36,280 --> 00:19:38,400
As Winky Pratt and Ewa said,
303
00:19:38,400 --> 00:19:43,360
When God finds someone with courage to pray, preach, and live a life before Him of holiness
304
00:19:43,360 --> 00:19:47,960
and compassion, He can literally change the face of a nation.
305
00:19:47,960 --> 00:19:52,560
During times of crisis, and I believe we're in them now, courage and cowardice both begin
306
00:19:52,560 --> 00:19:54,200
to emerge.
307
00:19:54,200 --> 00:19:59,480
Courage and character in any man or woman shines most brightly in times of difficulty,
308
00:19:59,480 --> 00:20:01,820
crisis, and intense pressure.
309
00:20:01,820 --> 00:20:06,160
The sirens and alarms are screaming a resounding cry,
310
00:20:06,160 --> 00:20:08,880
Spare your people, O Lord.
311
00:20:08,880 --> 00:20:15,400
You and I can be a part of the largest mobilized rescue effort in our day as we reach the multitudes
312
00:20:15,400 --> 00:20:17,280
living on the edge of eternity.
313
00:20:17,280 --> 00:20:20,200
The question is, will we answer the call?
314
00:20:20,200 --> 00:20:24,160
That goes back to what I've quoted before, a note that I received from Leonard Ravenhill,
315
00:20:24,160 --> 00:20:25,160
He said,
316
00:20:25,160 --> 00:20:28,400
My dearest brother Doug, let others live on the raw edge or the cutting edge.
317
00:20:28,400 --> 00:20:31,000
You and I should live on the edge of eternity.
318
00:20:31,000 --> 00:20:35,800
Whenever I begin to compromise, I begin to be self-absorbed or self-centered, and I begin
319
00:20:35,800 --> 00:20:40,200
to begin selfish in my thinking, I'm reminded there are multitudes of unmultitudes in the
320
00:20:40,200 --> 00:20:42,120
valley of decision.
321
00:20:42,120 --> 00:20:44,160
Don't let a crisis be wasted.
322
00:20:44,160 --> 00:20:49,480
Don't let the global difficulties right now be a time to walk in fear and run away into
323
00:20:49,480 --> 00:20:51,000
our holy huddles.
324
00:20:51,000 --> 00:20:52,720
But let us be available to God.
325
00:20:52,720 --> 00:20:58,280
Let His light shine in and through us, because there are multitudes upon multitudes entering
326
00:20:58,280 --> 00:21:00,560
into eternity without Christ.
327
00:21:00,560 --> 00:21:05,500
There are many still shipwrecked in the sea of despair, but we who have been rescued need
328
00:21:05,500 --> 00:21:09,880
to be those who are available to God and say, God, in the midst of all the adversities,
329
00:21:09,880 --> 00:21:14,040
in the midst of all the things that are going on, in the midst of all the obstacles, God,
330
00:21:14,040 --> 00:21:15,880
would you do a work in me?
331
00:21:15,880 --> 00:21:19,760
Help me, Lord, to run to the Lord and from that commissioning of the Lord be anointed
332
00:21:19,760 --> 00:21:24,040
and empowered by God to make a difference in a world that desperately needs the Lord
333
00:21:24,040 --> 00:21:25,040
today.
334
