Keeping Our Moral Compass

Keeping Our Moral Compass

Rectitude means to be guided with a moral compass, moral uprightness, moral conduct of righteousness, and conformity to the love of truth. It’s a respect for divine, natural, and human laws. It’s an uprightness in being honorable in integrity; honesty; justice. Doug recently shared on keeping our moral compass in the midst of all the noise pollution and distractions. He points to the scriptures that keep us focused on rectitude and righteousness. Listen to this timely, and inspiring message that reminds us of the importance of being tethered to God and His word so we can withstand the storms of the day.

Scriptures and Key Points:

How do we keep our moral compass in the noise of the world?

  • “Find Me in the stillness.”

Psalm 46:10 NKJV Be still, and know that I am God…

Jeremiah 29:7 NKJV And seek the peace of the city where I have caused you to be carried away captive, and pray to the Lord for it; for in its peace you will have peace.

  • Honor the foundations.

Genesis 17:4 NKJV As for Me, behold, My covenant is with you, and you shall be a father of many nations.

  • When God touches the local church, it impacts the nations.
  • The Church needs to cross racial, denominational, and generational lines and meet at the Cross of Christ.
  • Our first commitment is to the party of the Lion and the Lamb.

Matthew 6:33 NKJV But seek first the kingdom of God …

Ephesians 6:20 NKJV For which I am an ambassador in chains…

Hebrews 12:2 NKJV Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him…

  • Bushido code - “The Way of the Warrior”
  • Rectitude - a place of moral compass

Colossians 1:16-18 NKJV For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.

Compassion - compass and passion

  • God can give us His compassion.
  • Courage, Benevolence, Respect, Honor, Honesty, Loyalty

2 Thessalonians 2:11-12 NKJV And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

Hebrews 11:1-3 NKJV Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good testimony. By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.

  • There has been a corporate attack on the Word of God and His Church. Therefore there must be a corporate response with agreement in prayer and worship.
  • Authentic worship brings His anointing which breaks the yoke of bondage.
  • Faith is trusting in God’s promises even when circumstances are overwhelming.

Matthew 17:20 NKJV …If you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.

Hebrews 11:6-7 NKJV But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.

To Keep Our Moral Compass, We Need to be Tethered

  • Be connected with something greater than yourself.
  • Things that hinder our compass of faith:

Proverbs 4:23 NKJV Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.

  • It’s what we do in private that determines the power of God, or the lack of it, in public.

Hebrews 10:26–29 NKJV  For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful expectation of judgment…Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace?

1 Samuel 15:23 NKJV For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft…

  • God hates all sins, but the consequences are different.
  • Discouragement is a powerful drug.

“It’s always the wrong person on the cross.” - David Wilkerson, Have You Felt Like Giving Up Lately

  • God doesn’t owe us anything; He’s done everything.
  • By harboring unforgiveness, you don’t become better, you become bitter.
  • Have you predetermined what you want God to say?

Psalm 110:2-3 NKJV …Your people shall be volunteers in the day of Your power...

9
00:00:42,800 --> 00:00:48,400
How do we keep our moral compass in the midst of all the noise? And I remember waking up multiple

10
00:00:48,400 --> 00:00:53,200
times and just kept hearing the same thing over and over. It wasn't audible, but it was that strong

11
00:00:53,200 --> 00:01:00,320
in my spirit. And I kept hearing the Lord say, find me in the stillness. Find me in the stillness.

12
00:01:01,520 --> 00:01:06,880
You know, scripture teaches us to be still and know that He's God. But I realize with all the noise

13
00:01:06,880 --> 00:01:10,720
pollution and all the distractions and all the things that could really pull on our hearts,

14
00:01:11,280 --> 00:01:16,400
we need to find Him in the stillness. That's what I've been trying to hold on to. So greeba

15
00:01:16,400 --> 00:01:21,840
what I'm hearing on the news and just little clips I'm seeing and then the burning of the US flag

16
00:01:21,840 --> 00:01:26,560
and then thinking about my mom when she became a naturalized citizen. As you know, I was born in

17
00:01:26,560 --> 00:01:31,360
Japan. My mother was Japanese. But when she became a naturalized citizen, she was so proud of her

18
00:01:31,360 --> 00:01:36,720
little Pledge of Allegiance thing. She turned into a like a flag tent and put her flag that she was

19
00:01:36,720 --> 00:01:41,120
given rather than millen. Stay on the TV. You know, those old wired TV things, you have those

20
00:01:41,120 --> 00:01:46,720
rabbit ears. We could not touch her Pledge of Allegiance and flag. She was so proud to be an

21
00:01:46,720 --> 00:01:52,560
American. And so I began to think about the burning the flags and the continued desecration of our

22
00:01:52,560 --> 00:01:58,160
monuments and history and thinking about all these people riding on the streets and campuses

23
00:01:58,160 --> 00:02:04,480
and universities and in such conflict. And I realized that we have left our moral compass.

24
00:02:04,480 --> 00:02:12,400
We've left direction. We become untethered. All day I kept thinking about the Pledge of Allegiance

25
00:02:12,400 --> 00:02:17,920
has become a declaration for so many years and millions and millions have declared in the Pledge

26
00:02:17,920 --> 00:02:24,880
of Allegiance, one nation under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all. The reality is

27
00:02:24,880 --> 00:02:30,640
we're not indivisible. We are divided. And the reality is we're not one nation right now. We're

28
00:02:30,640 --> 00:02:37,360
so divided and conquered. There's so much lack of civility in our public discourse that we're not

29
00:02:37,360 --> 00:02:43,280
that one nation because we're not under God. One nation under God. We're not one nation because

30
00:02:43,280 --> 00:02:50,720
God is not Lord over us anymore. We've left and become untethered to God and we've lost our moral

31
00:02:50,720 --> 00:02:57,040
compass. And I kept thinking over and over as almost a form of intercession, the song God Bless

32
00:02:57,040 --> 00:03:02,960
America. No, I'm not saying that as a Christian that my first allegiance to this country, it's not.

33
00:03:02,960 --> 00:03:09,520
I belong to another kingdom. But I am called in Scripture to bless the land in which I dwell.

34
00:03:10,480 --> 00:03:18,400
And I am a beneficiary as an American of Asian descent. I'm a beneficiary of this nation and the

35
00:03:18,400 --> 00:03:24,080
foundations that were laid and the sacrifices made and the price that's been paid for me to have those

36
00:03:24,080 --> 00:03:29,680
liberties. So I show appreciation and honor for that because how can we build if we have a faulty

37
00:03:29,680 --> 00:03:35,040
foundation? I want to respect and honor the foundations that have been laid for me. It's not

38
00:03:35,040 --> 00:03:41,600
been perfect, but it's been the greatest foundation that any nation has in the sense of giving all

39
00:03:41,600 --> 00:03:48,080
people an opportunity to benefit. Just like with the covenant of Abraham, when God said to Abraham,

40
00:03:48,080 --> 00:03:53,920
when he was Abraham go, and you'll be a father of nations, the fact is it's God's intent that we,

41
00:03:53,920 --> 00:04:00,800
the church in this country would be a blessing to the nations. I remember a kind of a daily thing

42
00:04:00,800 --> 00:04:05,760
we would do the 40 days of Houston prayer mountain. We kept saying, give us Houston, give us the nations.

43
00:04:06,400 --> 00:04:10,960
And we really believe that God was going to use the church of Greater Houston to touch nations of

44
00:04:10,960 --> 00:04:16,080
the world. And back then we were not the most diverse international city in America. We just

45
00:04:16,080 --> 00:04:21,920
felt like that was what God was saying. And to fast forward to where we are in 2024, we are the most

46
00:04:21,920 --> 00:04:29,200
diverse city in America, the most international city beyond New York, beyond LA, beyond Chicago.

47
00:04:29,200 --> 00:04:35,680
We are the most diverse and more languages spoken in this region than anywhere else in the country.

48
00:04:36,400 --> 00:04:43,760
So when God touches the church in the region, the nations are already impacted. So that's our mandate.

49
00:04:43,760 --> 00:04:49,760
That's what God's called us to do. But how can we do that if we're divided? God bless America,

50
00:04:49,760 --> 00:04:55,040
the land that I love. And I realized how many first responders and people I've talked to over the last

51
00:04:55,040 --> 00:05:00,000
few years. And I've been on the border many times with border patrol on both sides of the board of

52
00:05:00,000 --> 00:05:05,920
talking to people and police chiefs and mayors who call and leaders who are just overwhelmed.

53
00:05:06,640 --> 00:05:11,920
When I was an Eagle Pass last year and meeting with the county judge and the mayor and the police

54
00:05:11,920 --> 00:05:16,720
chief and others that were there, regardless of their political persuasion, which was interesting,

55
00:05:16,720 --> 00:05:22,400
because the media plays one thing politically, but the reality is on the border speaking to people

56
00:05:22,400 --> 00:05:28,880
from Democrats and Republicans all overwhelmed. The county judge who happens to be a Democrat

57
00:05:28,880 --> 00:05:35,040
said, my whole life I would have never thought we'd be in the place we are today. The reality is

58
00:05:35,040 --> 00:05:41,200
that there has been a perfect storm and a Pandora's box has been open, but has been exasperated since

59
00:05:41,200 --> 00:05:47,840
the advent of COVID and social media. All these things have exasperated these things and created

60
00:05:47,840 --> 00:05:55,440
a perfect storm for us to see anarchy and lawlessness. But the thing that breaks my heart is to see the

61
00:05:55,440 --> 00:05:59,840
division in the church. We're to cross our racial to nominational generational lines,

62
00:05:59,840 --> 00:06:05,840
meaning at the cross of Christ. My first commitment is not to the party of the elephant or the party

63
00:06:05,840 --> 00:06:12,880
of the donkey. I belong to the party of the lamb and the lion. So my ultimate goal is seeking

64
00:06:12,880 --> 00:06:20,640
first the kingdom of God, being an ambassador for Christ. So I'm not ethnocentric first. I'm not

65
00:06:20,640 --> 00:06:27,200
political centric first. I'm Christ centric. I want to keep my eyes fixed on Jesus, the author

66
00:06:27,200 --> 00:06:35,120
and finisher of my faith. I did an article for a magazine on the Christian samurai and you might

67
00:06:35,120 --> 00:06:40,400
be surprised. I know there had been revivals in Japan over the last few hundred years and actually

68
00:06:40,400 --> 00:06:44,960
over the last thousand years there had been revivals and then there was the blood of the martyrs

69
00:06:44,960 --> 00:06:51,440
because even the Christian samurai were persecuted and came out of that period what would they call

70
00:06:51,440 --> 00:06:58,880
the Bushido Code. And the Bushido Code became known as the way of the warrior and is now even

71
00:06:58,880 --> 00:07:05,520
though there's no summarize anymore, the Bushido Code has become a way of life in an honor code

72
00:07:05,520 --> 00:07:12,240
in the Japanese culture and they don't even realize that much of it is biblical. So much of the

73
00:07:12,240 --> 00:07:18,560
Bushido Code though have given credit to Shintoism and Buddhism. If you look back historically all

74
00:07:18,560 --> 00:07:24,880
those Bushido Codes or the honor code was established through Scripture and I choose to believe and I'll

75
00:07:24,880 --> 00:07:30,240
have to do more research that a lot of that was introduced by the Christian samurai because that

76
00:07:30,240 --> 00:07:35,200
became a way of life and so one of the ways we reach the Asian culture, the Japanese and others

77
00:07:35,200 --> 00:07:41,200
is to show them that the Bible that was already written long before the samurai, long before their

78
00:07:41,200 --> 00:07:47,440
honor code, long before the Bushido Code, long before the way of the warrior were biblical scriptures

79
00:07:47,440 --> 00:07:52,400
that dealt with the very things that are part of the values of their country. Wouldn't it be better

80
00:07:52,400 --> 00:07:59,440
for us who are Christians to live by our standard because we're the ones who introduced many of these

81
00:07:59,440 --> 00:08:03,760
standards through Scripture and that's what's important that we would represent the kingdom

82
00:08:03,760 --> 00:08:10,320
in such a way that people are attracted to the kingdom of God. So one of the Bushido Code,

83
00:08:10,320 --> 00:08:15,440
I won't get into the whole thing, but one of them is rectitude, that they live by this place or code

84
00:08:15,440 --> 00:08:21,840
of rectitude. It's a place of respect and honor. It's a place of moral compass. They have a value

85
00:08:21,840 --> 00:08:28,240
system. We have a moral compass. The Bible says in Hebrews chapter 12, fix your eyes on Jesus,

86
00:08:28,240 --> 00:08:33,520
the author and finisher of your faith, who for the joy set before him. The point is that we can only

87
00:08:34,080 --> 00:08:40,960
be people of moral direction if we keep our eyes fixed on Jesus because the Scripture says in

88
00:08:40,960 --> 00:08:46,880
Colossians chapter one that all things are made two through four and by him. Every kingdom, principality,

89
00:08:46,880 --> 00:08:52,160
rulership, dominion, all these things are under his authority because he's the preeminent one, the son

90
00:08:52,160 --> 00:08:58,640
of God's love. So I think it's important for us to get back to our being tethered and back to our

91
00:08:58,640 --> 00:09:04,320
moral compass. And you know, I like what a friend of mine, Bishop Dale Bronner in Atlanta once said

92
00:09:04,320 --> 00:09:10,160
and I've borrowed this, but he said, you know, think about the word compassion. It's got two main

93
00:09:10,160 --> 00:09:17,760
words in compass and passion makes compassion. So for me to have moral rectitude, for me to have

94
00:09:17,760 --> 00:09:23,600
moral bearings, for me to have a moral compass is for me to also understand that the conflict

95
00:09:23,600 --> 00:09:30,320
in the flesh you can't fix. But this idea that God can give us his passion. He can give us his

96
00:09:30,320 --> 00:09:37,600
compassion, but it's directed passion. It's directed moral compass. It's a direction that God gives,

97
00:09:37,600 --> 00:09:43,360
but we can only get if we are fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.

98
00:09:43,360 --> 00:09:47,520
Go to me to Hebrews chapter 11. And while you're doing that, some of the other main

99
00:09:47,520 --> 00:09:52,400
honor code or the Bushido code, the way of the warrior is not just rectitude that you find in

100
00:09:52,400 --> 00:10:00,880
various scriptures, but courage, benevolence, respect, honor, honesty, and loyalty. These are

101
00:10:00,880 --> 00:10:06,880
all biblical principles that we as Christians need to represent and emulate. Second, that's only

102
00:10:06,880 --> 00:10:12,480
chapter two says that we will be given over to strong delusion if we don't have a love for the

103
00:10:12,480 --> 00:10:18,960
truth. There's so much anarchy and lawlessness around the country and around the world that

104
00:10:18,960 --> 00:10:24,480
it's overwhelming. And people have been given over to strong delusion because they lost their love

105
00:10:24,480 --> 00:10:30,960
for truth or their moral compass, because God is no longer first and preeminent in their lives.

106
00:10:31,680 --> 00:10:36,080
And when we allow that to happen, of course, we're going to see all these things unravel

107
00:10:36,080 --> 00:10:42,000
and all the opinions and ideas and personal preferences will never fix it. Even the next

108
00:10:42,000 --> 00:10:47,280
election cycle, this next election, this or that election, that or if we keep focusing on

109
00:10:47,280 --> 00:10:53,600
institutions and we are responsible to go out and do our, you know, be responsible to vote and

110
00:10:53,600 --> 00:10:59,920
vote our convictions. But the reality is that our hope is not in man. Our hope is in the Lord.

111
00:10:59,920 --> 00:11:05,680
And so when I see it's reminiscent of the 1960s, when I see all this happening around the country

112
00:11:05,680 --> 00:11:10,720
and all the burning of the flag and, you know, back when I was in eighth grade, I actually was asked

113
00:11:10,720 --> 00:11:15,120
with all the eighth graders of my junior high school in National City, California, suburb of

114
00:11:15,920 --> 00:11:20,400
San Diego and Chula Vista in that area, we were all asked to write an article and present it to

115
00:11:20,400 --> 00:11:26,640
the American Legion on what is American patriotism. And so to the amaze when everyone, when the

116
00:11:26,640 --> 00:11:31,360
gold medalist was called, I was called up to receive the gold medal for what I wrote. And

117
00:11:31,360 --> 00:11:37,200
they were like, oh, it's an Asian guy, you know, Vietnam War. So, you know, Doug Stringer, but

118
00:11:37,200 --> 00:11:42,560
looks like Asian anyway. I get that a lot. Been left in airports because of that. People just

119
00:11:42,560 --> 00:11:49,280
don't expect to have a John Wayne kind of a name from Texas looking Asian. But that's a whole

120
00:11:49,280 --> 00:11:56,000
another story. I have to have a t-shirt and I says, yes, I am Doug Stringer. But I wrote about the,

121
00:11:56,000 --> 00:12:01,440
what I'm saying is reminiscent today of what I saw back then was the rioting, the campus rioting

122
00:12:01,440 --> 00:12:05,920
and the fires or burning of the flag. In the midst of that, regardless of what you thought about

123
00:12:05,920 --> 00:12:12,080
the Vietnam War, to disrespect and spit on those who had been called up to go represent our country,

124
00:12:12,080 --> 00:12:18,640
to come back into such shame and being rudely spit upon and being tormented because they had

125
00:12:18,640 --> 00:12:24,880
been honorable to go fight for their country, regardless of people's opinions. So we saw the

126
00:12:24,880 --> 00:12:29,600
anarchy. So what we have today is reminiscent of those days. I want to talk about two quick things,

127
00:12:30,240 --> 00:12:36,080
faith and divine warnings. For us to understand this, we have to get back to realizing we have to

128
00:12:36,080 --> 00:12:43,280
keep our moral compass, keep our eyes fixed on Jesus. In the midst of all the noise and all the

129
00:12:43,280 --> 00:12:50,080
heartbreak and all the lawlessness, to know that we find him in the stillness, to find him in the

130
00:12:50,080 --> 00:12:56,720
stillness, to be still and know that he's still God. That if God can do it then and then and then

131
00:12:56,720 --> 00:13:03,760
and then he can do it now. And we're about to see an outpouring of God's presence. Hebrews chapter 11

132
00:13:03,760 --> 00:13:10,480
verse 1 says, talking about the definition of faith. Now faith is the substance of things hoped for

133
00:13:10,480 --> 00:13:16,880
and the evidence of things not yet seen. For by the elders obtained a good testimony, by faith we

134
00:13:16,880 --> 00:13:21,600
understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God so that the things which are seen were

135
00:13:21,600 --> 00:13:27,760
not made of things which are visible. They were formed by the word of God. Here's the sad thing

136
00:13:27,760 --> 00:13:32,960
where we are today that we have to pray into and we have to declare through prayer and through

137
00:13:32,960 --> 00:13:38,160
intercession, through singing to the Lord corporate worship because there's a corporate attack on

138
00:13:38,160 --> 00:13:42,640
the word of God, a corporate attack on his church. So there has to be a corporate response of corporate

139
00:13:42,640 --> 00:13:48,960
agreement in prayer and worship because when worship goes up authentic, I'm not talking about a lot of

140
00:13:48,960 --> 00:13:54,240
the worship of worship and worship of celebrity. I'm talking about authentic heartfelt worship

141
00:13:54,240 --> 00:14:00,720
that goes before the king that brings his anointing and his anointing does what? Breaks the yokes of

142
00:14:00,720 --> 00:14:08,960
bondage. Now faith is not necessarily just envisioning something or believing for something. I want

143
00:14:08,960 --> 00:14:16,560
this or I want that. But faith is trusting in God's promises and his word even when circumstances

144
00:14:16,560 --> 00:14:22,560
look overwhelming and impossible or not the way that we expected. This whole chapter we some have

145
00:14:22,560 --> 00:14:27,360
called it the chapter of faith or the heroes of the faith and it goes through every one of these

146
00:14:27,360 --> 00:14:33,840
different examples and it says and for others that were even written by name here. Faith is a

147
00:14:33,840 --> 00:14:38,800
substance of things hoped for and evidence of things have not yet seen and remember faith is not

148
00:14:38,800 --> 00:14:44,320
about just what we can get or believing for but it's holding on to the promises of God and it's

149
00:14:44,320 --> 00:14:50,960
trusting him because with one mustard seed, Jesus said with a mustard seed faith you can move a mountain.

150
00:14:52,000 --> 00:14:58,160
Have you ever seen a mustard seed size? It's like nothing. So it's not an issue of just having faith.

151
00:14:58,160 --> 00:15:03,920
God gives us those elements of faith. It's an issue of trusting God. How many of us have ever

152
00:15:03,920 --> 00:15:08,080
been to a place where we can believe for someone else but it's a hard time trusting God for us?

153
00:15:09,920 --> 00:15:15,280
And you can pray, you can speak words over people and you see them come to pass but it's another

154
00:15:15,280 --> 00:15:21,120
thing when believing for yourself. It's an issue of trust isn't it? I found that to be true for me.

155
00:15:21,120 --> 00:15:26,240
If we don't become tethered to God and staying tethered it's easy especially when the storms of

156
00:15:26,240 --> 00:15:30,720
life come because there are divine warnings that I believe God has been giving us. In fact,

157
00:15:30,720 --> 00:15:36,720
there's quite a few in the book of Hebrews itself but let's look at just this one. Verse 6 it says,

158
00:15:36,720 --> 00:15:43,200
but without faith in chapter 11 it is impossible to please him, please God. For he who comes to God

159
00:15:43,200 --> 00:15:49,120
must believe that he is and that he is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him. Now verse 7,

160
00:15:49,120 --> 00:15:57,760
by faith Noah being divinely warned of things not yet seen, lubed of godly fear, prepared an ark.

161
00:15:58,720 --> 00:16:07,520
So by faith Noah by divine warning had the faith to trust God. Now can you imagine not a rain cloud

162
00:16:07,520 --> 00:16:13,120
in the sky, there's no body of water anywhere and can you imagine how silly that must be

163
00:16:13,840 --> 00:16:18,320
and God's telling you build an ark and the people saying what are you talking about? We don't have

164
00:16:18,320 --> 00:16:23,280
any water. Build an ark here, build a big ship here. What are you talking about? For the moment he

165
00:16:23,280 --> 00:16:29,520
got the word to the time where the floods came was 120 years. So who knows how much time before we

166
00:16:29,520 --> 00:16:34,480
actually started and had to process. God is that really you? I can't be God. Is that really you God?

167
00:16:34,960 --> 00:16:41,040
And so it could be anywhere from 70 years, 75 to 120 years but the moment he got the word to the

168
00:16:41,040 --> 00:16:46,560
time when the floods came was 120 years. But can you imagine going through a promise, holding it

169
00:16:46,560 --> 00:16:54,080
with a promise, beginning the process of saying God I look silly here but yet God by faith gave him

170
00:16:54,080 --> 00:17:01,440
a divine warning of things to come. Today I believe that God is giving us a divine warning. He's

171
00:17:01,440 --> 00:17:07,440
giving us a clarion call. He says stop pushing the snooze button because by divine warning this

172
00:17:07,440 --> 00:17:12,480
time not to destroy the world the way that it was done before but he's calling us to be a people

173
00:17:12,480 --> 00:17:18,400
who create an ark of refuge. A place when the storms come because you know I remember it was

174
00:17:18,400 --> 00:17:22,640
Winky Prattany I think that told me this one time. He said you know it's fun to get out there and do

175
00:17:22,640 --> 00:17:27,360
the windsurfing and you know and enjoying all the waves and or the surfers that like to find storms

176
00:17:27,360 --> 00:17:32,400
and get out in the waves because the waves are better during the storms and but when the storms

177
00:17:32,400 --> 00:17:38,400
begin to come and they're relentless you better be close to an ocean liner. Better be close to

178
00:17:38,400 --> 00:17:43,520
being tethered to something that's solid and I think there's so many people been windsurfing

179
00:17:43,520 --> 00:17:48,400
even in the church world going to one conference to another conference. Conferences are great but

180
00:17:48,400 --> 00:17:53,440
going and worshiping this new style of worship, worshiping that movement but it's time for us

181
00:17:53,440 --> 00:17:59,440
to stay tethered. Create an ark of refuge of stability because when all the things come and go

182
00:17:59,440 --> 00:18:05,120
and the storms increase you better be connected to something that's stable. Deep in the plumb

183
00:18:05,120 --> 00:18:10,400
line or plumb bob of God not being swung by the pendulum swings of what goes on around us.

184
00:18:10,400 --> 00:18:17,040
Be connected. Be part of something greater than yourself. So by divine warning he ended up obeying

185
00:18:17,040 --> 00:18:21,360
God. The things I wrote down and have written about over the years but I really feel like it's a

186
00:18:21,360 --> 00:18:27,440
good thing to revisit is the things that hinder us individually and corporately from a real

187
00:18:27,440 --> 00:18:31,920
move of God or making sure that we look at these areas of our lives and I won't get into all of

188
00:18:31,920 --> 00:18:36,800
them. I'll give you some scripture references but the book of Hebrew says that it's a failure to hate

189
00:18:36,800 --> 00:18:42,720
sin. I think part of the delusion is coming if we no longer have a love for truth and so now

190
00:18:42,720 --> 00:18:47,680
we don't have a hate for sin. We want to call it other things. Oh you know it's just a problem.

191
00:18:47,680 --> 00:18:54,000
Look when I got radically saved I wasn't justified by excuse. I was justified by faith in Christ.

192
00:18:54,800 --> 00:18:58,160
God do whatever you need to do to change my life. I was in the fitness business running

193
00:18:58,160 --> 00:19:02,560
fitness centers and I used to say no pain no gain. Now I say God make it hurt so good.

194
00:19:03,360 --> 00:19:08,400
God do whatever you need to do. Help me Lord to build up those spiritual muscles so I can handle

195
00:19:08,400 --> 00:19:14,000
what's coming. It's the failure to hate sin. You can look at Hebrews in chapter one, chapter 12

196
00:19:14,000 --> 00:19:20,880
and also in chapter 13. Number two is negligence. That's Hebrews chapter two verse one and three.

197
00:19:21,520 --> 00:19:27,600
Number three is the hardening of heart. How many of us have ever been wounded to the point that we

198
00:19:27,600 --> 00:19:33,040
end up hardening our hearts and we don't even realize that we leave a relationship or we go

199
00:19:33,040 --> 00:19:37,200
through one area brokenness and take it into another relationship. I remember one time God had

200
00:19:37,200 --> 00:19:42,800
to give me a kind of a redirection on something because I like helping homeless people and drug

201
00:19:42,800 --> 00:19:49,040
addicts and at-risk youth. I like helping people and that's what we do. It's the compassion part,

202
00:19:49,040 --> 00:19:54,240
the compass passion, the compassion of what we do. What we call compassion evangelism becomes

203
00:19:54,240 --> 00:19:59,360
tangible so other people who reject the gospel their hearts are open to receive the message and

204
00:19:59,360 --> 00:20:05,280
change their minds. So it's a tool by which God uses us to impact people that normally would never

205
00:20:05,280 --> 00:20:09,680
hear the gospel. One time I was driving by and you know I don't know what it is about me. I'm a

206
00:20:09,680 --> 00:20:14,480
magnet to homeless people. Learning that the part of the process is I don't just give money away,

207
00:20:15,200 --> 00:20:21,280
I'll take them to go get something to eat or I would begin to ask them questions and follow

208
00:20:21,280 --> 00:20:25,760
up with those questions and before I would actually pay for them to have a bus ticket or

209
00:20:25,760 --> 00:20:29,600
pay for them to have something to eat or pay for them to stay somewhere for the night until they

210
00:20:29,600 --> 00:20:34,560
can get into a longer term place. I wanted to find out more about the situation if they were just

211
00:20:34,560 --> 00:20:38,880
trying to lie to me and lie to God. One time somebody came up to me and was giving me all this

212
00:20:38,880 --> 00:20:43,840
spill and same spill I've heard many many times. I said look I'm going to give you the money for

213
00:20:43,840 --> 00:20:48,720
the gas but I want you to take me to where you say your car is broken down where you need the gas

214
00:20:48,720 --> 00:20:51,840
because if you're lying to me I just want you to know it's blood money. I'm going to give it to you

215
00:20:51,840 --> 00:20:56,400
no matter what but if you're lying to me it's blood money because this is God's money. Oh no

216
00:20:56,400 --> 00:21:02,560
well you know really technically I don't really... we have to be wise stewards but God began to speak

217
00:21:02,560 --> 00:21:08,400
to me when the scripture says guard your heart for out of it flows issues of life. I've always been

218
00:21:08,400 --> 00:21:12,560
believed that was watch out for your heart don't let the world impact your heart but how many times

219
00:21:12,560 --> 00:21:19,440
is it also where we harden our heart because we bring it back to an experience we had. So now I no

220
00:21:19,440 --> 00:21:26,800
longer am sensitive to the one out of the 99. I'm not sensitive to the one who's legit because now

221
00:21:26,800 --> 00:21:32,720
I've just been burnt and taken advantage of so many times I don't have a tender heart in this

222
00:21:32,720 --> 00:21:38,160
situation. So God was saying what I'm saying is don't let your heart become so hard that's not

223
00:21:38,160 --> 00:21:42,640
pliable to every new situation. It's one thing to use wisdom it's another thing to become hard to

224
00:21:42,640 --> 00:21:48,880
heart so we are not to have a hardening of heart. The other thing is unbelief and then the next is

225
00:21:48,880 --> 00:21:53,360
prayerlessness you know it's it's what we do in private determines the power of God a lot of it in

226
00:21:53,360 --> 00:21:59,040
public. Our private posture our need time is so important I believe our need time is more important

227
00:21:59,040 --> 00:22:03,520
now than every board that's where our battles are done. We will either battle on our knees for the

228
00:22:03,520 --> 00:22:08,960
souls of men or we will be in literal battles ahead as the storms come. The other is dullness of

229
00:22:08,960 --> 00:22:15,120
hearing. Whenever I'm in a car or turn on the radio to hear the news or listening to music

230
00:22:15,120 --> 00:22:19,920
and somehow it's not coming through their static I don't call the radio station. My first thing to

231
00:22:19,920 --> 00:22:25,440
do is try to adjust my radio because I realize more than likely it's not the transmission it's the

232
00:22:25,440 --> 00:22:32,480
reception. And many of us it's not that God's not speaking it's that we're not listening we're

233
00:22:32,480 --> 00:22:38,880
filtering it's filter trapping. The next is insulting the spirit of grace as Hebrews chapter 10 verse

234
00:22:38,880 --> 00:22:44,880
26 through 29. That's one of my classic lifelong scriptures for if you sin willfully after receive

235
00:22:44,880 --> 00:22:49,440
the knowledge of the truth there remain a fearful expectation a fiery judgment because

236
00:22:49,440 --> 00:22:54,880
you have trampled underfoot and called it a common thing the blood of Jesus and you are profanating

237
00:22:54,880 --> 00:23:01,200
the spirit of grace. So we claim grace but we want to live in sin but when you habitually

238
00:23:01,200 --> 00:23:06,800
continually sin against God that the three types of sin in the Old Testament is Hatha, Pasha and

239
00:23:06,800 --> 00:23:13,360
Avon. Hatha that means missing the mark it's like you're going shooting a gun or doing archery by

240
00:23:13,360 --> 00:23:18,320
missing the mark that's called missing the mark we Hatha Hatha Hatha all day long I miss the mark

241
00:23:18,320 --> 00:23:25,520
all the time. The second kind of sin is Avon. Avon means iniquities and sometimes iniquities

242
00:23:25,520 --> 00:23:31,120
aren't not exposed because they're hidden in the heart or in the thoughts but when pressures come

243
00:23:31,120 --> 00:23:37,120
and pressure magnifies those iniquities come to the surface it's like what's in comes out.

244
00:23:38,320 --> 00:23:41,600
It's a good thing in some ways if we're willing for God to do that work in us

245
00:23:42,560 --> 00:23:46,640
and so we all have iniquities the heart that needs to be exposed. The third though

246
00:23:46,640 --> 00:23:56,240
is like Hebrews chapter 10 26 through 29 it's called Pasha and Pasha is where we willfully do

247
00:23:56,240 --> 00:24:03,600
wrong when we know to do right. It's rebellion. Rebellion against God is like the sin of witchcraft

248
00:24:04,160 --> 00:24:12,320
so when we knowingly willfully habitually choose to sin actively against God that's a place of a

249
00:24:12,320 --> 00:24:17,600
different judgment people say well God hates all sin that's true but the consequences of sins are

250
00:24:17,600 --> 00:24:24,160
different some are sins to the body some are sins to the death so we have to be cognizant of the fact

251
00:24:24,160 --> 00:24:30,560
that God covers all sin but he doesn't wink at sin so we don't want to insult the spirit of grace

252
00:24:30,560 --> 00:24:34,720
and then the next discouragement you've heard me speak on that many times discouragement is a

253
00:24:34,720 --> 00:24:41,680
powerful drug because as a tendency it calls us to compromise our convictions because we become

254
00:24:41,680 --> 00:24:47,760
disillusioned with people things situations discouragement is we need to be encouraged in

255
00:24:47,760 --> 00:24:53,280
the Lord not discouraged Hebrews chapter 6 verse 11 through 12 19 and 20 verse 35 through 36

256
00:24:53,280 --> 00:25:00,000
harboring unforgiveness and bitterness. David Wilkerson said in a book if you felt like giving

257
00:25:00,000 --> 00:25:05,600
up lately he wrote it's always the wrong person on the cross Jesus didn't say take up my cross

258
00:25:05,600 --> 00:25:10,400
and take up your cross and follow me he already went to the cross he paid the price for us

259
00:25:10,400 --> 00:25:16,720
I was talking to some people just a couple weeks ago and I said look God doesn't owe us anything

260
00:25:16,720 --> 00:25:22,080
he's done everything so don't sit there and keep saying give me give me give me my name is Jimmy

261
00:25:22,080 --> 00:25:26,320
I'm sorry for your name is Jimmy give me give me give me it's like we expect expect expect and if

262
00:25:26,320 --> 00:25:31,360
he lets us down we become discouraged get mad at God we point our fingers at God but the reality is

263
00:25:31,360 --> 00:25:37,600
God doesn't owe us anything he's already done everything I want to be grateful for everything

264
00:25:37,600 --> 00:25:44,400
David Wilkerson said that when you get wounded and hurt you stay stuck on that cross while the

265
00:25:44,400 --> 00:25:49,920
people that have hurt you or slandered you or broke your heart they've gone on with their life

266
00:25:50,640 --> 00:25:56,400
they're living life so you're the one that's suffering by being stuck in a moment by harboring

267
00:25:56,400 --> 00:26:02,320
unforgiveness and bitterness you don't become better you become bitter but every situation in

268
00:26:02,320 --> 00:26:08,640
circumstance is an opportunity for God to help us become better not bitter and I think we're in

269
00:26:08,640 --> 00:26:13,920
that place we have to say God I want you to remove all the vexations all the things out of my life

270
00:26:13,920 --> 00:26:18,720
I don't want to be held to the past I want to be who you called me to be today so I release out of

271
00:26:18,720 --> 00:26:23,280
my spirit any unforgiveness and bitterness and wounds so I can be who you've called me to be

272
00:26:23,840 --> 00:26:30,080
that's Hebrews chapter 12 verse 14 and 15 and then finally refusing the Lord when he speaks

273
00:26:30,080 --> 00:26:36,800
Hebrews chapter 12 verse 25 to 27 I think of Jeremiah when God's people came up to him and said

274
00:26:36,800 --> 00:26:42,320
look we're going through it we've been rebellious against God would you seek God on our behalf

275
00:26:42,320 --> 00:26:48,160
and whatever God says to do we will do it so Jeremiah seeks God comes back and says well

276
00:26:48,160 --> 00:26:53,600
here's what God said they go oh that can't be God you're a liar how many of us have already

277
00:26:53,600 --> 00:27:01,120
predetermined what we want God to say because part of faith is trusting him that he knows better to

278
00:27:01,120 --> 00:27:05,200
close the doors that need to be closed open the doors that need to be open I've always said

279
00:27:05,200 --> 00:27:10,880
say God there's so many things that I could be doing but I need to know when the doors are open

280
00:27:10,880 --> 00:27:15,440
I don't want to just open the door because it happens to be open take me by the hand leave me

281
00:27:15,440 --> 00:27:20,080
in the paths of righteousness take me through the door you want but make sure you close the doors

282
00:27:20,080 --> 00:27:24,080
that need to be closed so that way I know it's you leading me and not me just going oh here's

283
00:27:24,080 --> 00:27:30,480
another opportunity what a great time it is to live right now for us to be that lighthouse in

284
00:27:30,480 --> 00:27:38,000
the midst of the storms of life to be that lighthouse in the midst of the fog and it can get pretty

285
00:27:38,000 --> 00:27:44,000
foggy can't it it can be very disappointed to see what we're seeing and look I want to turn my pain

286
00:27:44,000 --> 00:27:52,640
in intercession because I am grieved at what I see you know my mom would say she was still here

287
00:27:52,640 --> 00:27:55,360
she would tell people burning the flag if you don't like it go somewhere else

288
00:27:57,040 --> 00:28:02,240
if she do like this what's up out of you you don't like a country then go somewhere else

289
00:28:02,240 --> 00:28:10,080
see what's like live somewhere else it's about you look I'm not worshiping a flag but that flag

290
00:28:10,080 --> 00:28:15,680
represents a lot more to me and I've been around a lot of people that I've watched their pain

291
00:28:15,680 --> 00:28:22,160
military given their lives made sacrifices for us to have the freedoms we have I get calls on a

292
00:28:22,160 --> 00:28:26,000
regular basis to have a lot of opportunity to minister to a lot of people in those places that

293
00:28:26,560 --> 00:28:34,480
are disheartened one city went from thousands of police officers down to hundreds and they're

294
00:28:34,480 --> 00:28:41,040
desperate for help there is no age limit with God God's looking for all of us Psalm 110 verse

295
00:28:41,040 --> 00:28:49,840
2 and 3 says that throw in army of volunteers for the day of his power this is a moment for us right

296
00:28:49,840 --> 00:28:57,600
now like never before let's not let the enemy lie to us let's not let the hindrances the personal

297
00:28:57,600 --> 00:29:02,800
corporate revival keep us let us keep our eyes fixed on Jesus the author and finish of our faith

298
00:29:02,800 --> 00:29:09,280
let's draw near into his presence and be in his presence through the stillness of his presence

299
00:29:09,280 --> 00:29:17,280
the stillness find him father I thank you for my brothers and sisters I thank you lord that we have

300
00:29:17,280 --> 00:29:24,720
been raised up with a different standard that we are not like the world but lord we have the

301
00:29:24,720 --> 00:29:33,040
privilege and the honor of being a part of the kingdom of God Lord would you help us to be a godly

302
00:29:33,040 --> 00:29:38,320
example in the land in which we live that we can also be a blessing to the nations of the world

303
00:29:39,200 --> 00:29:45,360
God we are asking you to do what only you can do and Lord just like in the 60s and so many other

304
00:29:45,360 --> 00:29:53,280
times difficult times you poured out your spirit God we're ready for another outpouring but Lord

305
00:29:53,280 --> 00:29:58,960
we also know we have to prepare for that outpouring by being an arc of refuge for those who are the

306
00:29:58,960 --> 00:30:07,280
storms of life many souls will become pause persecutors shall become advocates god I pray right now

307
00:30:07,280 --> 00:30:13,680
that you would open the eyes of the blind but start with us Lord that our hope is restore the altar

308
00:30:13,680 --> 00:30:21,040
of worship in you for our faith that our trust is in you by divine warning you giving us wisdom

309
00:30:21,040 --> 00:30:27,280
and direction and guidance to prepare for those storms ahead in Jesus name
