Supreme Court Has Voted to Overturn Roe v. Wade and What’s Next

The Supreme Court has voted to overturn Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey, according to a draft opinion. Politico published the news of the leaked opinion. This overturning of the nearly 50-year-old ruling would return the issue of abortion to the states, which have a wide range of laws on the topic. This episode discusses the opinion and what it means for these states. It also discusses the one question that we need to answer when it comes to whether abortion should be allowed. Finally it also discusses how the USA compares to other countries when it comes to taking the life of the pre-born.

Select quotes from the draft opinion:

“Roe was egregiously wrong from the start. Its reasoning was exceptionally weak, and the decision has had damaging consequences. And far from bringing about a national settlement of the abortion issue, Roe and Casey have enflamed debate and deepened division.”
—Justice Samuel Alito in an initial draft majority opinion

“We hold that Roe and Casey must be overruled. The Constitution makes no reference to abortion, and no such right is implicitly protected by any constitutional provision....”
—Justice Samuel Alito in an initial draft majority opinion
