We live in a world that has dramatically changed its view of truth, resulting in an inherited value system that denies the existence of truth. Past generations of Americans viewed God as the basis of truth and morality. Not anymore. Hot topics include the chasm between the biblical view of sexuality and the secular view, which grows wider every day.

Every week there seems to be a new headline on social media about an author, blogger, musician, worship leader, Pastor or YouTube celebrity re-inventing historic Christian absolutes. The common thread in many of these stories is Progressive Christianity and cultural relativism. But what is it? Where did it come from? Is it really progressing? Why is it growing in popularity? And what has been its impact on society? 

Historically, one of the most eternally significant questions in the Bible was posed by an unbeliever. Pilate— who turned to Jesus and asked, “What is truth?”

Two thousand years later, the whole world inhales Pilate’s cynicism on a hourly basis. Some say truth is a power play, a metanarrative constructed by moral types. To some, truth is subjective—the individual world of preference and opinion. Others believe truth is a collective judgment, the product of cultural consensus. Still others flatly deny the concept of truth altogether.
