Shabbat Shalom Introduction (Out of Zion Episode #81)

Transcript
1
00:00:00,000 --> 00:00:06,560
One of my most favorite memories of living in Israel was experiencing Shabbat.

2
00:00:06,560 --> 00:00:16,440
You know, Fridays were very busy times as everyone was out shopping and they were cleaning and preparing for family gatherings and for a day of rest.

3
00:00:16,440 --> 00:00:24,960
The stores would begin to close by 4 p.m. so that the shoppers as well as the workers could catch that last bus home.

4
00:00:24,960 --> 00:00:35,000
And as the roads began to empty of cars and buses and the sun was setting and the synagogues were filling up for prayer,

5
00:00:35,000 --> 00:00:44,200
then you would hear, off in the distance, the Shabbat whistle, alerting the whole city that Shabbat had begun.

6
00:00:44,200 --> 00:00:47,200
Rest had begun.

7
00:00:47,200 --> 00:00:55,840
You know, Jerusalem in particular would shut down because of the high percentage of its population are religious Jews.

8
00:00:55,840 --> 00:01:07,440
So much so that in many neighborhoods you could just walk down the middle of the road in Shabbat because you knew there would be no cars to get in your way.

9
00:01:07,440 --> 00:01:11,360
I loved waking up on Saturday morning to silence.

10
00:01:11,360 --> 00:01:20,720
No cars, no horns, just the sounds of children playing and maybe your neighbors gathering for a meal.

11
00:01:20,720 --> 00:01:24,520
Do you long for a little peace in your life?

12
00:01:24,520 --> 00:01:40,760
Well, subscribe now so here on each Friday I can send you a short Shabbat Shalom devotional just to bring a little inspiration and a peaceful end to a very busy week.

13
00:01:40,760 --> 00:01:47,920
So subscribe now and until then I wish you Shabbat Shalom.

14
00:01:47,920 --> 00:02:11,920
Sabbath peace.
