Out of Zion with Susan Michael

Many of us are looking for more peace in our hectic lives. But what is true peace as found in the Hebrew word Shalom? It is a peace that comes from being made whole – having something provided that we had lacked. As you end a hectic week take time to reflect on what God has provided for you. He paid the price so you can be made whole and know true peace—Shalom!

00:00:00,000 --> 00:00:07,360
Well, hey there and welcome to the Shabbat Shalom devotional series of the Out of Zion

2
00:00:07,360 --> 00:00:09,880
Show dot com.

3
00:00:09,880 --> 00:00:12,920
Do you need a little bit more peace in your life?

4
00:00:12,920 --> 00:00:19,040
Well join me here each Friday and I'm going to share a short devotional thought that

5
00:00:19,040 --> 00:00:25,320
will inspire, it will strengthen your faith, and it will just bring a peaceful close to

6
00:00:25,320 --> 00:00:27,640
a very busy week.

7
00:00:27,640 --> 00:00:29,800
So what is real peace?

8
00:00:29,800 --> 00:00:34,600
Well, I always go back to the Bible to understand these things.

9
00:00:34,600 --> 00:00:37,640
The word in Hebrew is Shalom.

10
00:00:37,640 --> 00:00:41,400
And you know, in Israel Shalom is just a daily greeting.

11
00:00:41,400 --> 00:00:46,400
You and I say hello in English and they say Shalom in Hebrew.

12
00:00:46,400 --> 00:00:47,400
I love it.

13
00:00:47,400 --> 00:00:52,040
It's like blessing everybody instead of just saying hello.

14
00:00:52,040 --> 00:00:57,400
So the concept is really deep in Judaism and therefore in Christianity.

15
00:00:57,400 --> 00:00:59,480
But what does it mean?

16
00:00:59,480 --> 00:01:05,000
So let's look at the Hebrew word and you always look at the root of a Hebrew word and

17
00:01:05,000 --> 00:01:10,080
then see where that root has been developed into other words to get the context, the larger

18
00:01:10,080 --> 00:01:12,440
meaning of one word.

19
00:01:12,440 --> 00:01:19,120
And so with Shalom you find that Shalom is talking about a peace that comes from a payment

20
00:01:19,120 --> 00:01:24,000
being made or a lack that you had being fulfilled.

21
00:01:24,000 --> 00:01:27,360
In other words, you being made whole.

22
00:01:27,360 --> 00:01:28,360
That's peace.

23
00:01:28,360 --> 00:01:30,880
Now doesn't that make a lot of sense?

24
00:01:30,880 --> 00:01:36,440
Because those of us that don't have peace, it's because we're usually worried about

25
00:01:36,440 --> 00:01:40,480
something that we're lacking or something that we haven't done or something that there's

26
00:01:40,480 --> 00:01:47,760
a shortage of and we're striving to obtain that we just don't have yet.

27
00:01:47,760 --> 00:01:50,440
So peace is the opposite of that.

28
00:01:50,440 --> 00:01:57,560
You know spiritually we all owe a debt because of our sin that we cannot pay.

29
00:01:57,560 --> 00:02:00,360
It was just too much for us to pay.

30
00:02:00,360 --> 00:02:05,840
And so a loving God paid the price for us out of his grace and mercy.

31
00:02:05,840 --> 00:02:12,760
Jesus paid the price on the cross for our sin so that we can walk in peace.

32
00:02:12,760 --> 00:02:15,200
We're made whole through him.

33
00:02:15,200 --> 00:02:19,480
So there's nothing in your life that is too hard for God.

34
00:02:19,480 --> 00:02:25,840
If he took care of the ultimate debt caused by your sin, he can take care of anything

35
00:02:25,840 --> 00:02:29,120
that you bring to him in your life.

36
00:02:29,120 --> 00:02:36,240
And honestly, only he can really fill that void in your heart and make you whole and

37
00:02:36,240 --> 00:02:37,240
give you peace.

38
00:02:37,240 --> 00:02:43,680
So at the end of a very hectic week, take time to reflect this weekend on all what he's

39
00:02:43,680 --> 00:02:47,760
done for you and I want to wish you Shalom.
